Deepak Sohane

Project Urban Designer

Deepak Sohane is a project planner and urban designer with a background in architecture and city planning. His educational and professional experience emphasizes:

  • Design of streetscapes, the public realm and public spaces;
  • Corridor and multi-modal streetscape planning and design; 
  • Theories and Methods of Urban Design;
  • GIS Mapping, AutoCAD, 3-D modeling and rendering and graphic simulations for planning

Deepak is especially interested in environmentally sustainable neighborhood planning, mixed use transit oriented development and transportation and landscape planning. His work at CD+A includes landscape and wayfinding for the AC Transit BRT project in Oakland and San Leandro and urban design concepts for station for the Geary BRT project in San Francisco. Deepak has worked on streetscape projects that integrate green infrastructure concepts for the Bancroft Way Streetscape Improvements in Berkeley and design of multi-modal street alternatives for Greening Last Chance Gulch in Helena, Montana. He has also been involved in the research and policy documentation for of EPA's Green Street Strategy tool, and full bid-set drawings for the Benicia Intermodal Facilities and Berkeley-Oxford Corner Improvements. Deepak continually demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of planning and urban design and aims to create innovative plans reflective of the input from the planning process.

Prior to joining CD+A, Deepak was an Urban Design Consultant at Perkins + Will and Workshop Instructor at Academy of Arts University. In the past, he has worked on a variety of architecture and planning projects ranging from a building to framework plans for housing and institutional complexes. Deepak earned a Masters in Urban Design from the University of California, Berkeley. He participated in urban design studios both locally and abroad, including China, South Korea and Germany.
