Sub-consultant to The Planning Center|DCE

2011 - present

CD+A is the sub-consultant responsible for streetscape and pedestrian improvements on a multidisciplinary team that is preparing the Bergamot Area Plan in Santa Monica, CA. The project area includes the Bergamot Art Center and adjacent EXPO light rail station, the Bergamot Transit Village, and the Mixed-Use Creative District to the north. The project is funded by a HUD Community Challenge Grant, the City of Santa Monica, and additional funding from the NEA focused on supporting growth of the creative economy in the area.

CD+A is focused on creating new and improved pedestrian and bicycle linkages within the planning area and the design of the area's streets and public open spaces to support pedestrians and transit ridership. The area is currently very fragmented both in terms of the overall transportation network and by several auto-dominated streets in the area, including Olympic Boulevard, Cloverfield Boulevard, and 26th Street. CD+A will also be working on the design of access improvements and public open spaces in conjunction with the EXPO light rail station that will soon start construction in the center of the planning area. The sustainability of the overall plan and the lush character of future landscaping will also be enhanced by green stormwater infrastructure design concepts that CD+A will be developing.

The current focus of the effort is the redesign and reconnection of the Bergamot Art Center with the surrounding area. The overall design and planning of the project is slated to be primarily completed in 2013.
