Eastridge Transit Center Improvement and Access Plan
San Jose, CA
Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority
2009 - 2010
CD+A developed the Eastridge Transit Center Improvement and Access Plan to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to the Eastridge Transit Center, a key Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) system transfer point and future light rail station.
CD+A employed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and fieldwork to analyze existing pedestrian and bicycle access to the transit center and to bus stops connecting to the transit center. CD+A mapped the areas served by existing sidewalks, paths and crosswalks within a walking distance of the transit center and each bus stop, and noted existing and planned bike routes. The project team then analyzed the barriers restricting pedestrian and bike access to the transit center and bus stops. The project's final report includes recommendations for improving pedestrian and bicycle access to Eastridge Transit Center through better sidewalks, safer street crossings, the re-envisioning of the Eastridge Mall Loop road, and other new connections overcoming major barriers to access. When implemented, these improvements will greatly increase the amount of area surrounding the Eastridge Transit Center that is accessible by foot and bike.
