Description
CD+A led a multidisciplinary team in developing concept designs for complete street improvements along a 2.5 mile stretch of Blackstone Avenue in Fresno. The project’s goal was to develop a community-driven framework for complete streets improvements that increase the effective range of public transit; serve the needs of all users, particularly people walking and cycling; and support the development of transit-oriented, mixed-use development in the activity centers as envisioned by the Fresno General Plan and the local community.
CD+A assessed existing conditions and developed a range of near- and long-term, multimodal concept designs based on community and stakeholder input. Following several rounds of charettes, workshops, and focus group and stakeholder meetings, the team prepared the Smart Mobility Strategy report. The report contains descriptions of the near-term and long-term corridor concepts tailored to different segments of the corridor, cost estimates, and an implementation and funding strategy. The strategy was unanimously adopted by Fresnoʻs Planning Commission and City Council.
