Description

CD+A designed and prepared landscape construction documents for the approximately one-mile long Whitesell Street Redesign project (formerly I-880/SR 92 Phase I Truck Reliever Route). Improvements include the widening and extension of Whitesell Street to have two travel lanes, bicycle lanes, a center median, green infrastructure, sidewalks on both sides of the street, and large remnant open space parcels. The green infrastructure stormwater planters along the street capture and treat roadway stormwater runoff through curb cuts and trench drains.

CD+A designed the landscape to include sustainable materials, processes, and design features for the project to be certified under the Bay-Friendly Certification for New Civic, Commercial, & Multifamily program. Landscape related support documentation and construction drawings and specifications were developed to ensure Bay-Friendly credit points were achieved. The landscape design also addressed site challenges including working within a constrained right of way, establishing shade trees to reduce solar heat island effect, and accounting for poor site soils and the presence of high power transmission lines.
