Phil Erickson
Principal, President

Phil Erickson is an urban designer, architect, and planner with extensive experience in urban design, transit- and pedestrian-oriented development, context sensitive multimodal complete and green street design, land use/transportation planning, site planning, and architecture. His work focuses on placemaking, innovation, and transforming under-utilized and auto-dominated streets and corridors into vibrant, active communities and public spaces. Phil believes creating more sustainable, equitable, and vital communities requires a high quality, functional, and attractive pedestrian environment, which improves the experience and access of people walking, bicycling, taking transit, and riding in private vehicles. The scale of his work ranges from the region to the detail of specific site and public space design. Phil leads the design and planning efforts of many of the firm’s projects and is responsible for the management of multidisciplinary teams working for public and private clients.
Phil’s success in his work results from a commitment to working with clients to analyze their needs and identify creative solutions and designs to satisfy these needs. His approach balances a stakeholder consensus-building process with creative design and technical analysis. His experience in design, implementation, transportation planning, market economics, management, and community participation allow him to effectively work with and focus the efforts of multidisciplinary teams. He has authored national standards for the integration of street and land use design.
Phil enjoys bicycling for recreation with his family, and cannot wait to be able to bike to work rather than walk to his “work station” in the dining room. He also likes to read a good book, and to cook and share a good meal.
